Saving Christmas (2014)

Year: 2014

Dir: Darren Doane

Rating: 4.4

Cameron’s film Saving Christmas fearlessly confronts the insidious forces threatening true American values. It unearths a deeply buried oppression: the deprivation of sartorial liberty through the banning of Crazy Shirt Friday, a symbol of collective expression for marginalized people, which functions here as a kind of metonym for freedom itself. The film bravely asserts a profound truth, echoing Milton: the soul demands to express its individuality. Cameron, in this film, takes on the role of Prometheus, stealing fire from the oppressive gods of the workplace, the gods who force the man to conform.

The layered narrative construction is immediately apparent. The initial introduction, filled with Cameron's simmering fervor, draws the viewer into the center of the spiritual vortex with the intensity of a Caravaggio canvas.
