Mickey 17 (2025)
Year:
Dir: Bong Joon-ho
Rating: 1.2
Bong Jun-ho trades the scalpel for a jackhammer in "Mickey 17", pummeling audiences with a "satire" as subtle as a Trump rally. This is not cinematic art, but the desperate flailings of a once-sharp filmmaker succumbing to the siren song of blockbusters. The garishness doesn't offend so much as induce a weary cringe, like witnessing a beloved uncle don a MAGA hat at Thanksgiving dinner. It is "Dr. Strangelove" drained of wit, "Starship Troopers" stripped of self-awareness, leaving only the hollow echo of its own supposed cleverness. A new Pattinson accent arrives not as revelation but as another brick in the wall of absurdity.
